Mohammad Jamshidi gets MVP of the Week award for WASL- January 7, 2023
The 31-year old had the game-high 31 points adding six rebounds and seven assists for Gorgan in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Al Naft (#6, 1-2) with 41-point margin 110-69. Gorgan is placed at 3rd position in WASL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Gorgan will need more victories to improve their 2-1 record. In the team's last game Jamshidi had a remarkable 70.6% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Gorgan, through which he has constantly improved. Jamshidi has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (9th best: 22.7ppg), assists (8th best: 6.0apg) and averages solid 53.7% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American forward Antwaine Wiggins (203-F-1988, agency: BIG) of Al Naft. Wiggins impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Al Naft lost that game 69-110 to Gorgan (2-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Wiggins is a newcomer at Al Naft and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.7ppg (#3). He also registered 9.3 boards per game. The third best performed player last round was South Sudanese Ater Majok (210-C-1987) of second-ranked Al Riyadi. Majok scored 22 points and grabbed ten rebounds. He was a key player of Al Riyadi, leading his team to a 89-67 easy win against Al Karameh (#7, 1-2). Al Riyadi needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 1 lost game. Majok has a great season in WASL. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.7rpg (9th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Mohammed Alsuwailem (211-C-1998) of Al Hilal - 20 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Parrish Petty (185-PG-1988) of Gorgan - 25 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Behnam Yakhchali (196-SG-1995) of Gorgan - 22 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Kevin Murphy (197-G-1990) of Kazma - 34 points and 9 rebounds 8. Latavious Williams (203-F/C-1989) of Kazma - 11 points and 14 rebounds 9. Nick Minnerath (207-PF-1988) of Shabab Al Ahli - 32 points and 3 rebounds 10. Amir Saoud (186-G-1991) of Al Riyadi - 26 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
